Loch Ness and Great Glen Guided Landscape Photography Day

Available All Year Round

Prices

1-1 tuition £200 per day

1-2 tuition £300 per day (for you and a friend)

The Great Glen is an iconic area of Scottish Tourism, with the most famous lake in the world sitting in the centre: Loch Ness. Loch Ness is a tremendous freshwater lake surrounded by the legends of a mythical monster living below the surface. The entire area is gauged to build this industry, including Boat tours looking for the monster.

That being said the largest lake in Britain makes for a wonderful area for a day of photography.

There are a variety of landscapes surrounding the Great Glen area, from dramatic waterfalls, mysterious mountains, rumbling rivers, and ancient ruins.

As with all of my guided landscape photography days we will try and make the most of the weather conditions the day presents us. There are many locations that we will explore, and the weather as with all photography can play an essential part.

Included in the price of this tour is free entry to Urqhart Castle, a wonderful location for those that enjoy the history of Scotland, and it can be quite photogenic. However, we will be among tourists and the building requires a property release if you wish to use the images commercially, so it is entirely up to you if you want to visit the Castle, and feel free to ask me more about it.

Like the Moray Coast day this tour involves a day in the car but with plenty of stops to stretch our photographic muscles. Most of the locations are fairly close to the car with a walk of a couple hundred metres generally the limit, although as always if you want to explore further we can certainly give it a go.

The day will typically begin at 08:00 in the morning with me picking you up from your accommodation, we should be at our first location by 09:30.

We will work in a circular route around Loch Ness fitting in as many locations as we can throughout the day, and we will be on location for sunset before heading back to your accommodation. During the summer this tour may start later than 08:00 because sunset is not until 22:00 and it will be too long of a day for both of us, and we both will want to be on location for sunset to try and capture those amazing colours!

In general we are aiming for about 12-14 hours of photography, including time for lunch and travel.

I will confirm the starting time when you book the activity.

In the car there will be a box of fresh fruit and a box of chocolate bars, and some hot water to make hot drinks, such as coffee, tea or hot chocolate. You are welcome to help yourself and we will take regular breaks.

You will need to bring your own packed lunch for the day, but if you are unable to bring a lunch we can stop at a supermarket or shop for you to buy your lunch for the day.

Depending on your level of photography, I can give you as much tuition as you desire. If there are some things of which you are a bit unsure, please do not hesitate to ask me about them. I am there to help you achieve what you want out of photography.

I will show you some tips and tricks that I have been using when taking pictures, and we will look over composition and finding the subject in the landscape.

That being said, if you know what you are doing and only need some help finding locations then I am sure you will enjoy a day of photography in Scotland.

We will talk about some techniques that I use when out for landscape photography, including Intentional Camera Movement and slow exposures to create abstract images.

We will also talk about optimum weather for landscape photography and ways we can plan photography days out to try and maximise our opportunities in the field.

Payment will be taken at the time of booking via bank transfer or Stripe to secure your dates

Fitness Level

As mentioned above this day is quite an easy day, in general the locations I recommend are only a few hundred metres from the car. If you are able to walk further, then we will be able to get to some more unique locations. There are some un-even paths through forests, so if you are a little unstable or need any help, I will be on hand to get in to position. And if we are visiting the Falls of Foyers the path down to get in to position is a little steep on the way back up.
